  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 3 tsps. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • Miniature Marshmallows
  • 1 cup chopped nuts {optional}
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 6 tsps. milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 pound box confectioner's sugar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts {optional}
  • 1 tbsp vanilla


  • Preheat oven to 300* F
  • Lightly grease a 13x9 inch cake pan
  • Cream sugar, shortening and vanilla together until creamy
  • Add egss, one at a time, and beat well
  • Sift together flour cocoa and salt
  • Add to creamed mixture and blend well. Add nuts if desired
  • Bake at 300* for 35 to 45 minutes until a cake tester comes out clean
  • Remove from oven and spread marshmallows on top
  • Cook for 5 more minutes. Spread frosting while cake is warm
  • Cook butter, milk and cocoa until boiling. Remove from heat and add sugar, nuts, vanilla and blend well.
