About Kaylin McFarren

Linda Yoshida, aka Kaylin McFarren, is a rare bird indeed. Not a migratory sort, she prefers to hug the West Coast and keep family within visiting range. Although she has virtually been around the world, she was born in California, relocated with her family to Washington, and nested with her husband in Oregon. In addition to playing an active role in his business endeavors, she has been involved in all aspects of their three daughters’ lives – taxi duties, cheerleading coaching, script rehearsals, and relationship counseling, to name but a few. Now she enjoys spending undisciplined time with her two young grandsons and hopes to have many more.

Although Kaylin wasn’t born with a pen in hand like so many of her talented fellow authors, she has been actively involved in both business and personal writing projects for many years. As the director of a fine art gallery, she assisted in furthering the careers of numerous visual artists who under her guidance gained recognition through promotional opportunities and in national publications. Eager to spread her own creative wings, she has since steered her energy toward writing novels. As a result, she has earned more than a dozen literary awards and was a 2008 finalist in the prestigious RWA® Golden Heart contest.

Kaylin is a member of RWA, Rose City Romance Writers, and Willamette Writers. She received her AA in Literature at Highline Community College, which originally sparked her passion for writing. In her free time, she also enjoys giving back to the community through participation and support of various charitable and educational organizations in the Pacific Northwest.

Flaherty's Crossing

About Flaherty’s Crossing

From Pacific Northwest’s award-winning author Kaylin McFarren comes a powerful novel about love, loss, and the power of forgiveness…

Successful yet emotionally stifled artist Kate Flaherty stands at the deathbed of her estranged father, conflicted by his morphine-induced confession exposing his part in her mother’s death. While racing home, Kate’s car mishap leads her to a soul-searching discussion with a lone diner employee, prompting Kate to confront the true reasons her marriage hangs in the balance. When her night takes an unexpected turn, however, she flees for her life, a life desperate for faith that can only be found through her ability to forgive.

Kaylin sat before her computer writing FLAHERTY’S CROSSING as a source of personal therapy after losing her beloved father to colon cancer. You might say she was angry at him, at God, at the world in general. However, after writing this story, she had the opportunity to really look into her soul and consider the fact that so many other sons and daughters have had to deal with similar and even worse situations. Rather than a memoir, her novel evolved into a fictional journey which brought about the resolution she needed to find. She never expected this exercise in writing to go to press, touch lives, or win literary awards. But as a result of her good fortune, she has arranged for proceeds from the sale of this book to go directly to the Providence Medical Foundation’s colon cancer research department in her father’s name. She’s now convinced and proudly shares her belief that good things can grow out of the worst times in our lives if you just take the time to open your heart.

Melissa MayhueThank you so much for inviting me to be here with you guys today! It’s been an exciting month with the release of A HIGHLANDER’S DESTINY on December 29 and then A HIGHLANDER’S HOMECOMING on January 26.
These are the fifth and sixth books in my Daughters of the Glen series, set in a world that is identical to ours, except for the existence of Faeries! These two books are especially fun for me to have coming out back to back because, although they are both stand-alones which could be read all by themselves, HOMECOMING picks up where DESTINY leaves off, following different characters and viewing the action through a different set of eyes.
Also, while DESTINY is based in a contemporary setting, HOMECOMING is a time-travel to medieval Scotland.
I’ve loved to read Romance for more years than I can remember. And though I’ve read and enjoyed a variety of books from a variety of sub-genres within Romance, Paranormal is definitely my favorite.
Naturally, this leads to the obvious question… Why?
I’m not sure I have a good answer, though I have a suspicion as to why it works best for me!
First off, when I read, I want to be totally involved in the story. I want to get lost in world of those pages so that I don’t have think about any of MY problems! ( To me, that’s one of the big advantages of a Paranormal Romance. No matter how powerless I may have felt in some real world situation – kids’ problems at school, relationships, finances, work – the heroine in a Paranormal Romance is going to find she has the power to rise to defeat whatever is threatening her world. And she’s going to do it all with a Happy Ever After waiting for her! And since as a reader I’m putting myself in that Heroine’s place, well, what more could I ask for?
It’s the fantasy of the perfect love, the perfect man, a situation in which no matter how powerless you feel, you [the heroine] can rise to the occasion and control your destiny. Horrible evils may be out there waiting to defeat you, but Good will triumph in the end.

Book Tour~ A Highlander's Destiny by Melissa Mayhue

From the book:
Jesse Coryell, a descendant of the Fae, is a man in search of his destiny. He's tried to lose himself in his work, taking on the worst mankind has to offer, but what he really needs to find is his true love. When he sets out to help a mysterious woman find her sister, what he gets is much more than he bargained for: battling an undeniable attraction to his sexy new client while fighting an ancient evil to keep her safe.
Destiny Noble, abandoned by everyone she's ever loved, will stop at nothing in her desperate quest to find her sister. Authorities have declared Leah a runaway, but Destiny knows better. Her dream visions have shown her the frightening truth. They've also shown her Jesse. But finding her Soulmate could result in the most painful loss of all, when she's forced to choose between loving Jesse and saving Leah.
Jesse and Destiny race against time to save an innocent girl from a powerful ancient evil. Is true love their best weapon...or will they be required to sacrifice their own destiny?

My thoughts:

I loved this book, and even though it is the 5th in the series, I never felt like I was lost. The chemistry between Jesse and Destiny is amazing, and I felt like I was feeling most of what they were.
I am an avid reader of paranormal romance and Melissa didn't disappoint!!

Everyone in Destiny Noble's life has abandoned her and the only family she has left is her younger sister. When the Nuadian Fae kidnap her sister, Destiny uses her dreams to locate her, which leads her to Jesse Coryell, a member of Dallyn's Elite Guard.

Jesse Coryell owns Coryell Enterprises that specializes in tracking down captives held against their will. He takes on Destiny as an unofficial client and promises to help her locate her sister. He is used to calling the shots during the investigations but Destiny refuses to be a docile client with her sister's life in the balance.
Jesse finds her stubbornness intriguing and dangerous. Women have wanted him for his unlimited back account, but not Destiny. She wants him to trust in her visions to help her locate her sister - something that he is not prepared to do. His lack of faith in her abilities causes her to follow her own path even when it leads her into danger forcing Jesse to rescue her.
